Befriending & Advocacy in Gosport

We are proud to have over 60 dedicated volunteers, some of whom have supported the service for more than 20 years. Together, they contribute just under 5,000 hours of support each year.

Befriending

Our befriending service offers regular companionship to people who may be feeling lonely or isolated. Support can be provided through friendly phone calls or face-to-face visits, helping to build meaningful connections and improve wellbeing.

Advocacy

Our advocacy service helps individuals access the information, services, and support they need. We provide guidance and practical help to build confidence, enabling people to make informed decisions and have their voices heard.

CHAT Group

CHAT Groups offer a relaxed and welcoming space for people to meet, talk, and connect with others. Led by volunteers, these small groups help reduce isolation and encourage friendships to grow.

How We Support You

Our service provides personalised, one-to-one support through home visits, taking a holistic approach to each individual’s needs. Alongside reducing loneliness through befriending, we offer practical advocacy support to help people access information, understand their options, and make informed decisions about their lives.

We can support with completing forms, accessing services and benefits, and ensuring individuals are able to express their views and have their rights upheld. Our advocacy work has helped local residents secure thousands of pounds in entitlements, as well as gain access to vital support and services.

During home visits, we also help connect people to a wide range of additional support, including fire safety checks, falls prevention and exercise programmes, adult social care services, and pendant alarm systems. We provide information on local groups, meals, transport, and home or garden support to help people remain safe, independent, and connected within their community.

Additional support may include help with Blue Badge applications, accessing disability equipment, signing up to the Priority Services Register, and referrals to services such as Hampshire Fire & Rescue. We aim to ensure that each person receives the right support at the right time.

All of our volunteers are carefully recruited, DBS checked, and references are obtained. We take great care in matching each individual with a suitable volunteer to ensure a positive and supportive relationship.
